Yellowstone: From Myth to Park

A short documentary by Cody Meridith

From stories of boiling springs and petrified forests to the expeditions that helped establish Yellowstone National Park, this short documentary follows the journey from frontier myth to national recognition.

Combining original field cinematography with historical imagery and narration, the film explores how exploration, science, photography, and art helped bring Yellowstone’s extraordinary landscape into public view.

Behind the Film

I filmed Yellowstone’s geothermal features, waterfalls, and landscapes while working as a wilderness guide in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. The project brings together my interests in natural history, interpretation, and visual storytelling.

Originally produced as part of my Digital Cinematography studies at Full Sail University, this version has been revised for my portfolio.
