Wandering Grizzly
Over 6,000 miles into an almost 8,000-mile journey from the Florida Keys to Alaska, I was deep in the Yukon Territory, several days into the Alcan Highway. The road was rough, the sky endless. As I rounded a sharp bend near the Alaskan border, she appeared….a grizzly, lean and soaked, freshly shaken from winter’s long sleep. Her eyes scanned the thawing earth, already searching for her first meal. I stayed still, heart thudding, watching a moment as wild and raw as the land itself.
